Everyplace Synchronization Server

Preparing to install the DB2 Everyplace

Because SyncML does not support synchronization with JDBC-compliant relational databases, the Everyplace Synchronization Server includes an integrated version of DB2 Everyplace for this purpose. Enterprise data can be synchronized between the backend relational databases and mobile devices. Synchronization Server includes an embedded version of DB2 Everyplace that has been customized for Synchronization Server environment. Therefore, when working with DB2 Everyplace, note the following:

• Since Synchronization Server manages user memberships through the WebSphere Portal, the DB2 Everyplace XML script bulk loading of users is not supported.
• User and group membership is managed through the WebSphere Portal Users and Groups portlet. The DB2 Everyplace user group names must all begin with DB2e.
• DB2 Everyplace users must be members of both a synchronization user group and a DB2 Everyplace user group, a group that begins with DB2e.
• DB2 Everyplace member subscriptions and device profiles are managed using the DB2 Everyplace Mobile Devices Administration Center (installed with DB2 Everyplace)
• JDBC compliant relational database connections are also created using the Mobile Devices Administration Center.
• DB2 Everyplace provides an example application, the Visiting Nurse, to demonstrate what you can do with DB2 Everyplace.

There is no information you need to have available in advance of installing DB2 Everyplace (DB2 Everyplace). The install process imports the DB2 Everyplace Sync Servlet into the WebSphere Application Server. The servlet status can be viewed from the WebSphere Application Server Administrative Console. After you complete the installation, the servlet is up and running.
