Everyplace Synchronization Server
Using an existing or remote database
The Synchronization Server uses DB2 to store user and device profiles, adapter profiles, and
Synchronization Server configuration data. You can create this database during the Synchronization Server
install, if you create it on the same machine where you install the other components of Synchronization
Server. If you want to create this database on a remote machine, you can create it by using Setup Manager
before beginning the Synchronization Server install. The Synchronization Server
install process cannot create the database on a remote machine but can point to it if it already exists.
The install process can also point to an existing local database.
Notes:
To create the remote databases:
- Ensure DB2 is already installed on the remote machine.
- Run Setup Manager using the following command.
install.bat d:\
Where d: represents the CD drive.
- Setup Manager launches. Click Next to continue.
- The IBM Program License Agreement dialog box opens. If you accept the Agreement, click Accept.
If you decline the Agreement, click Decline and the installation process stops.
- The type of installation dialog box opens. In this box, there are three options for installation, Silent,
Quick and Standard. Select Standard click Next.
- Expand Synchronization Server and select
Database setup only. Ensure that the other two selections are not checked.
- On the Directory Name panel, choose a directory to install to or accept the default.
- On the next panel, choose "Create local databases".
- Enter the User ID and password of the existing DB2 database administrator.
- Continue through the install wizard until the database is created.
- When the database has been created, you can install Synchronization Server on a different machine. During that installation,
ensure that you select "Use an existing database", and point to the database you just created.
