If timeout occurs, the waiting transaction is stored in File 9, and the terminal can accept new transactions. The timeout can be set to a value which gives sufficient time for the terminal controller to poll the terminal. The transaction queue can then operate in buffered mode until the terminal controller starts to poll the terminal again.
The terminal will return to interactive processing after all transactions collected in buffered mode have been polled and received by the terminal controller.
