Privileges for Executing the CONNECT Statement

The current user, or PUBLIC, must have the Connect privilege on the database specified in the CONNECT statement. The user who executes the CONNECT statement cannot have the same user name as an existing role in the database.

For information on how to use the USER clause to specify an alternate user name when the CONNECT statement connects to a database server on a remote host, see USER Clause.
