Choosing Volumes for Mounting

When ISM requires a volume for backup, it uses the following hierarchy to select volumes that are not currently in use from the appropriate volume pool:

1. Already mounted storage volume available for backups
2. Already mounted storage volume that is eligible for recycling on a device with the Automatic Media Management option enabled
3. Unmounted, unlabeled storage volume in a device with the Automatic Media Management option enabled
4. Unmounted storage volume that is available for backups
5. Unmounted storage volume that is eligible for recycling in a device with the Automatic Media Management option enabled
