Setting USABLE_SPACES in the Shell

The USABLE_SPACES variable can be set in the shell by a command like the following:

• setenv IBM_XPS_PARAMS 'USABLE_SPACES = space [ , space]'
• export IBM_XPS_PARAMS = 'USABLE_SPACES = space [ , space]'

USABLE_SPACES can be set in the shell before the database server is initialized, or after the server is started, but before starting an application

• If USABLE_SPACES is set in the shell prior to initializing the database server, then all session use that value initially.
• If USABLE_SPACES is set in the shell after the server is started, all applications started from that shell use that value.

The USABLE_SPACES value that is set at the user shell takes precedence over the value set before the server is initialized. Subsequent SET ENVIRONMENT statements can override values that were set in the shell.
