Java Profiler in containers
The IBM
Instana Java profiler in containers may be enabled with
com.instana.plugin.profiling.java in
INSTANA/etc/instana/configuration.yaml or
INSTANA_JVM_PROFILER_ENABLED=true as an environment
variable in the target Java processes.
The default profiler uses Async-profiler.
An alternative is to use the JFR-based profiler with the environment
variable INSTANA_JFR_ENABLED=1 on the target Java
processes.
In general, an overhead of 1 to 10% is expected depending on the
workload. When both cpu-sampler-enabled and
contention-sampler-enabled are enabled, the overhead may
reach 20-40% with CPU-intensive applications. The values of
cpu-sampler-runs and contention-sampler-runs
may be reduced to 1 for lower overhead with lower sampling
frequency.
