Logical units and target ports on Hitachi HUS 100 family systems

The Hitachi HUS 100 family system has a maximum LUN size of 128 TB.

LUNs

A volume is referenced by the ID or the name of the H-LUN.

Each system in the Hitachi HUS 100 family can export 2048 - 4096 LUNs to the system node. The system supports greater than 2 TB LUNs.

LUN IDs

The Hitachi HUS 100 family systems identify exported logical units through SCSI identification descriptor type 3. The 64-bit NAA IEEE Registered Extended Identifier (NAA=5) for the logical unit is in the form 5-OUI-VSID. The HDS IEEE company ID is 000E8. The remaining part of the company ID is a vendor-specific ID.

Complete the required action on the volume: select Groups > Volumes.

LUN creation and deletion

Volumes and their corresponding logical units (H-LUNSs) are created, modified, or deleted through the browser. Volumes are formatted to all zeros upon creation.

Volumes are created in a RAID group or a dynamic provisioning (DP) pool. In the GUI, select Volumes > RAID Groups/DP Pools. From RAID Groups/DP Pools, select the required Pool/Group Number > Volumes. From here, you can select Create Volume.

Additionally, a host group can be created and assigned during this process. Partitions are exported as volumes with a logical unit number (H-LUN) either manually or automatically assigned to the partition. For the system, one LUN per RAID array is normal.

To modify, resize, or remove a LUN, follow these guidelines:
  1. Unmap the volume: Select Groups > Host Groups and then select a port of the host group. Select edit host group:
    Host Group Property
     choose; <name>
select; Ports, to select all ports
select; Forced set to all available ports
    Second Tab; Volumes
select, remove the volume and confirm
  2. Complete the required action on the volume. Select Groups > Volumes. Select Volume Tab, select the volume, and then delete or change.
Note:
  1. Make sure that the MDisk is unmanaged (removed from any storage pool) on the system before you delete the LUN on the Hitachi HUS 100 family SAN storage system.
  2. Do not expand dynamic arrays on LUNs that are in use by thesystem. For the system to recognize arrays, the MDisk must first be made unmanaged by migrating or deleting the LUN from the storage pool.

LUN presentation

LUNs are exported through the available FC ports of the Hitachi HUS 100 familystorage system. Configure these ports by host group.

Special LUNs

You do not need to follow special considerations for logical unit numbering. LUN 0 can be exported where necessary.

Target ports

A Hitachi HUS 100 familystorage system has a total of eight Fibre Channel ports, as shown in the following example:

LU access model

All systems are Active/Active. To avoid an outage from system failure, cross connect the ports across Fibre Channel switches. Because all model Hitachi HUS 100 familystorage systems are equal in priority, you gain no benefit by using an exclusive set for a specific LU.

LU grouping

LU grouping does not apply to Hitachi HUS 100 family systems.

LU preferred access port

No access ports are preferred on the model Hitachi HUS 100 family as all ports are Active/Active across all systems.

LUN security

LUN Security enables LUN masking by the worldwide node name (WWNN) of the initiator port. This function is supported for logical units (LUs) that are used by the system node.

Detecting Ownership

Detecting ownership does not apply to model Hitachi HUS 100 family storage arrays.
