Operating Modes of Extended Parallel Server

In XPS 8.50 and in earlier release versions, Extended Parallel Server has two modes that support operations on a database:

• On-line mode, in which multiple sessions can perform DDL and DML operations
• Quiescent mode, in which the onutil utility can check and repair certain RSAM data structures

(A third mode, off-line mode, does not support database operations. A fourth mode, microkernel mode, is used before a cold restore.)
